Magda Ćwik (b. 1981, Rzeszów, Poland) is a Polish painter that works between figuration and abstraction. Her psychological portraits evoke emotions and capture the soul of the traveler. This is precisely how the painter depicts the figures in her works as traveling souls. She draws scenes during her travels capturing people in transit. The expressions of portrayed people show an interior emotional landscape.
Her creative practice also includes painting in meditative states. Magda’s intention is to immortalise nature in the purest form possible. Her daily white ink drawing practice evolved into a new technique. In her studio she started combining what she loves the most from various techniques into one piece. Expressive strokes from painting, dynamic lines from drawing, subtle style of watercolours and textured surfaces she blends together releasing the underlying bright background. By scratching and moving away a stained layer of oil paint she brings back a feeling of the morning light. The breeze passing through the shapes and trees and shades painted in a poetic way.
The viewer of Magda’s works is taken to a temporary moments, echoes of feelings immersed in a space of subtle stories that encourages deeper observation of the inner and outside world. The artist presents spirituality as an integral part of life.
Magda Ćwik exhibited solo and collectively, among others in: Barcelona, Paris, Hamburg, Lisbon, Dublin, London, Krakow and Warsaw.
